Why we support it

It might only be a 5K, but it’s a 5K that will stay in your memory far longer than many longer races. It’s short, savage and a lot of fun: a great local race from Pudsey Pacers, and one we’re proud to support.

The route

The main draw is Post Hill itself. It looks like an old Roman road, but it was built in the 1920s for motorbike hill climbs, and it shows: an insane gradient, cobbled, rocky and steep. You have to make your way up it twice (notice we didn’t say run).

In between, the two loops take you through woodland trails with muddy conditions underfoot. It is epic.

Watch out for

  • Footing on the hill. The cobbles and rock get slippery when wet, so pick your line on the way up.
  • Mud. Expect it in the woods, especially after rain.
  • The start. It’s about a 15-minute walk from race HQ, so leave time to get there.
  • Remembrance Sunday. There’s a one-minute silence before the start.

Our shoe picks

An aggressive trail shoe with some cushioning:

  • Hoka Speedgoat 7
    Cushioned all-rounder with deep lugs.
  • Saucony Peregrine 16
Grippy, nimble trail shoe with some cushioning.
  • Hoka Mafate 5
Big cushioning with an aggressive grip.

After a very wet spell, or if you’ll trade cushioning for grip, go for a deep-lugged mud shoe:

  • Inov-8 Mudtalon V2
Deep lugs for mud and wet rock. Less cushioning, more grip.
Not sure which suits you? Come into the shop in Otley and we’ll help you choose.
